Director Biography - Bernardo Mata

Bernardo Mata is an attorney who wrote his first story at the age of 7. He has ventured into cinema as a director, producer and screenwriter. His works have been fiction short films, such as “A tale about emptiness” (2024), “Anthropozen” (2023), “Do you know what to do with silence?” (2019), “Mox Biriñaque” (2016), “Alma Raíz” (2012). He has participated in film festivals such as Shnit Worldwide Film Festival, Costa Rica International Film Festival CRFIC and Tokyo Lift Off Film Festival. He has written scripts and short stories, one of which received the “Young Creation, First Finalist” award in the contest organized by Editorial Costa Rica in 2012. He is passionate about sound and music. He has composed the music for his short films in collaboration with professional musicians.

A man in his wild trail faces an unfathomable adversary, resembling the mystery of life. When to fight, when to stand still, when to flow? Sometimes emptiness is the way to clear everything, to make disappear anger, desire and judgement.
