Lucas Lee McGowen is an award winning commercial and short film director, writer, and cartoon artist. Of Irish and Lebanese descent, Lucas grew up in the mountains of Woodstock NY, Costa Rica and Mexico with his single mother, a painter. He then moved to New York City to study art at The New School. While still in school he began shooting music videos for Beyonce, Bon Jovi, Lion Babe and others while teaching himself screenwriting and directing. His first short film ‘Three Brothers’ premiered at The Brooklyn Film Festival and was acquired for streaming by Indieflix. Known for his off kilter sense of humor and surreal story lines, his films have been featured at Sundance, SXSW, the Brooklyn Film Festival, Art Basel Miami, and the Premio Cinematographico Palena, among others. He is the recipient of the 2018 Webby Award for public service and activism, and the 2018 Shorty Award for his Black Lives Matter PSA ‘Take a Knee’.
