Ariadne

Set against the backdrop of escalating anti-trans legislation in the United States, this short documentary follows Ariadne, a young trans woman living in California. Through intimate glimpses into her daily life—playing guitar, skating through the streets, and participating in community events—Ari shares her thoughts on joy, fear, identity, and resistance. Her story serves as a lens through which the film explores the realities of being queer and trans in 2025, a time when administrative barriers and political hostility clashes with the resilience and beauty of lived experiences. Created as part of the UCSB course “FEMST 150: Sex, Love, and Romance” taught by the very inspiring Professor Miller-Young, this film functions as both a personal and political essay on the everyday radical act of existing.
