Aria

A micro-short animated interpretation of the Handel aria “Lascia la spina, cogli la rosa” from the oratorio "Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno" (1707), “Aria” evokes a feeling of nostalgic loss and the need to seize the moment in the face of the inevitable passage of Time (a rough translation of the first line of the aria is "leave the thorn, take the rose"). My version of the music is purely instrumental; Handel originally wrote this as an instrumental sarabande and would later reuse the beautiful aria melody in his opera "Rinaldo".

Director Biography - Deb Ethier

I have at various times in my life been an artist, musician, writer, educator, history and vintage film buff, puppet maker and children's theatre director, finally tying them all together with stop-motion and mixed-media animation. "Rusty Bolt Theatre" and "Seat of the Pants Film Lab" are basically one-person, no-budget endeavours in which I wear all of the hats.
