Application To Be Lars Von Trier's "Female Girlfriend/Muse"

August 11th, 2023 filmmaker and Dogme 95 founder Lars Von Trier posted a video on instagram seeking applications for a, "female girlfriend/muse." Later that week I visited Rose, my 74 year old best friend, neighbor, and muse, to film an application. Lars has yet to respond.

Director Statement

Rose Banigan is my neighbor and best friend. Working with her has unlocked a new part of my artistic practice, something more iterative and personal than my normal work. However, at times I worry our relationship is one sided. Sometimes when we shoot, Rose has no idea what is going on. I wanted to use this premise of talking to Rose about Lars Von Trier as a vehicle to talk about our relationship and ask these tricky questions. The result is not a successful application video, but a love letter to my muse.
