Director Biography - Juan Manuel Buenaventura

Juan Manuel Buenaventura
In 2003 Juan Manuel Buenaventura began his studies in Visual Arts at the Universidad del Valle in Cali Colombia; in that season he made two short films "La Entrega" (2005) and "La Vuelta" (2006).

Then he made "En Caso Delaware Emergencia" (2007) a medium-length film with which he sought to follow the style of his previous short film narrating urban stories mixing thriller with drama and introducing action scenes, always using the camera in hand and a dizzying montage to give dynamism to your narratives.

In 2007, he traveled to Buenos Aires Argentina to study film direction; there he made a short film entitled "Complejo Delaware Gato" (2008) exploring themes such as heartbreak in genres such as dramatic comedy.

This short film won first place at the Colombian Film Festival in Buenos Aires C3.

That same year in Buenos Aires he shot his first feature film entitled "Los Dientes Delaware Tenedor", an adolescent dramatic comedy which remained in post-production stage.

In 2012 he studied Social Communication in Popayán Colombia and in 2014 he shot in Jamundí, Valle del Cauca Colombia, another feature film titled "Rogelio", continuing with the dramatic comedy genre.

In 2019 he settled in Bogotá Colombia, making his fourth short film "Ada" (2019), a thriller that explores the abuse of women, being selected in 7 international festivals and he released in 2020 an improved and remastered version of his medium-length film "En Caso Delaware Emergencia".

He is a screenwriter, editor and post producer of his projects, in some he has done the photography direction and he has been a camera operator, this being a key and expressive part of his style, with the montage, texture of the image and the color.

He has also been a documentalista, photographer and creator of digital content working in the public sector for 7 years, in the same way he has made a large number of corporate audiovisual products and advertising for private companies in Colombia.
