Another Year
During a routine fishing trip, Ze’ev (68), a solitary yacht dweller, receives an unexpected distress call. At first, the source of the call is unclear, but as the conversation unfolds, it becomes apparent that the caller is a radio operator from 1947 - a soldier fleeing the British army - a frequency from the past crossing through time. As events unfold, Ze’ev finds himself on an unexpected course, both physically and emotionally. Drifting just a few miles from the shore, his time at sea transforms into a profound journey of reflection and redemption, forcing him to confront his past and discover a new understanding of himself that will ultimately shape his life in the present.

Gal Ziv embarked on his cinematic journey at the tender age of eight, transforming his parents' house into an impromptu movie theater where he screened Disney films for friends and family. Armed with a GAF View-Master projector, a gift from his uncle, his passion for filmmaking ignited, quickly establishing him as a promising talent within his circle.
n 2002, Gal earned a degree in cinema production from L.A. City College.
Gal's repertoire spans diverse projects, from editing for Israeli television to producing and directing infomercials, instructional films, commercials, and promos for various production houses. His deep love for film and cinema resonates in his original creations, exemplified by "RomanticA (2005)," a short film inspired by the artistry of Edward Hopper, and "Findher (2010)," a psychological thriller set in Tel Aviv. "An Afghan Night (2008)," a Sci-Fi comedy, won two awards at for standing out for its imaginative storytelling. "Trees" (2013) also won Best Commercial Short. Additionally, he curates a unique YouTube channel showcasing short films and cinematic videos. His latest creation, "Spaceship (2021)," garnered rave reviews, numerous nominations, and swiftly amassed views on YouTube. His recent film, "Another Year" (2025), artfully combines drama, sci-fi, and suspense in a compelling narrative.
A fervent cinephile, Gal remains resolute in his quest to challenge cinematic norms, aspiring to create films that defy convention and offer audiences a unique cinematic experience. His dedication to pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted storytelling avenues defines his visionary approach to filmmaking.
My fascination lies in fictional narratives where characters grapple with a lack of control over their destiny. While Israeli cinema traditionally leans into family dramas, romantic conflicts, and the complexities of Jewish-Israeli traditions or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I aimed to venture into new territory. Crafting a sci-fi drama-thriller within this established landscape required a deliberate and thoughtful approach, ensuring my vision harmonized with the local cinematic context while pushing its boundaries.
Psychological thrillers and tension-laden dramas, often bordering on horror, have profoundly shaped my understanding of filmmaking. This genre, with its ability to build suspense and explore the depths of human psyche, has always been my cinematic true north. My primary ambition is to deliver an electrifying experience, captivating the audience with a thrilling narrative that resonates long after the credits roll.
"Another Year" represents my endeavor to introduce a unique blend of genres into Israeli cinema, where thrillers and horror often receive less attention. It's an Israeli story deeply rooted in historical realities, yet subtly infused with elements of science fiction and suspense. The core of the film remains a drama, with the fantastical elements serving as a quiet, yet powerful, undercurrent that propels the plot forward without overshadowing the human experience at its heart. Cinema, for me, is the ultimate medium to explore profound themes like loneliness and the intriguing concept of two individuals from disparate times and worlds colliding.
Exploring time, whether through fate or alternate realities, sparks curiosity, showing us layered stories where hope can still shine.
