For my directorial debut, the principal goal was to make a short ghost story that audiences would think a “good sit.” While this may not sound like Icarus-level ambition, I was aware that no film is easy to make, and that on my first try simply producing something that would entertain was a worthy goal. Particularly as I knew the film would be dialogue free, synchronised speech a challenge I will save for my next short.
Still, the ignorance of my ambition soon became apparent. I have not counted all the shots in Anna Worth, but would guess the number exceeds that of a typical debut. Most directors know how hard it is to get one shot; I gave myself dozens and dozens. It is testament to my wonderful cast (who doubled as crew) that we managed to complete the film, and that it is something I think worth sharing with the world.
The film was shot over several months, and then edited, sound mixed, and colour graded over several more. It runs 17 minutes, but I have been assured it does not feel that long. I hope all who watch it will remember Anna’s story as a good sit.
