Director Statement

The short film introduces character named Lily. Through this character, inspired by real people and their experiences, I aim to highlight the harsh realities faced by many.

Lily represents the collective struggles of women in my country, and her story is a poignant commentary on the societal attitudes towards women. The film delves into themes such as domestic violence and anti-feminism, portraying the tragic reality that forces many women into the role of silent, helpless observers. My goal is to challenge these societal norms and inspire a shift in the stereotypical thinking prevalent among my fellow citizens and people in other countries where violence against women is disturbingly common.

Throughout her journey, Lily encounters profound personal and political challenges faced by many. The film touches on the escalating tensions at the Mexican-American border, a subject that resonates deeply with me both as an artist and as a person. As an immigrant in the United States, I have met many compatriots who have endured bullying, violence, and even kidnapping as they strive for a better life across the border. The plight of those leaving my country for the USA, willing to endure unimaginable hardships rather than remain in their homeland, is a distressing reality that I cannot ignore.

This film is not just a story; it is a call to action. It is a plea to the government of my country to acknowledge these issues and start prioritizing the well-being of its people. By shedding light on these harsh truths, I hope to spark a conversation and motivate change. This film is a testament to the resilience of those who fight against societal and political oppression, and it is a beacon of hope for a more just and compassionate world.
