ANGELS IN NEW YORK CITY

"Angels in NYC.” I wrote the song some time after I moved by myself to search for spiritual guidance. I addressed these questions to NYC because I had just arrived and in some way, I felt that the love I have for this city and it's music scene could be the answers.
I co-wrote this song with the Grammy awarded songwriter Itaal Shur and Kelsey Warren aka Blak Emoji.
I released the song just before the pandemic started so the shooting of the music video got paused.
In the summer I started again with the rehearsals. Also, I started a GoFundMe Campaign to be able to shoot the music video. Finally, we shot it in Autumn and released it in December.
The music video is directed by Peter Dressel. It's all shot on a Bushwick's rooftop. Johari Mayfield created a series of short choreographic sections based on dance theatre movements that accompany the acting and the photography.
I wanted to include some dance because this music video is an homage to my mom who was sick at hospital from Covid 19 in the beginning of the pandemic. My mom was the one who introduced me to the dance world. I started taking dancing classes when I was six. After that,
would come acting and music but first was dancing. The music video is an emotional homage to all of this. We all have different ways of dealing with the pain , mine was a reaffirmation to what has once given me wings. That has always been the performing arts and love, of course.
My mom recovered from Covid so there's also a sense of hope. It's a reaffirmation of life.
At the end of the song there's an excerpt from Sleepless City, a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca that expresses the anguish of New York City back in the 1929 when the stock market crash brought misery and poverty to its population.
The music video was released on Films On Go TV, a platform for independent films and filmmakers , thanks to Aphrodite Film Awards NYC (who has awarded my work multiple times) and Alexa Films LLC support.
