Ethan Zehr is an actor and filmmaker creating his own films since he was in 6th grade. Growing up in an religous household and going to a religious school, he spent most of his life deeply closeted but now freely expresses how he wants people of different sexualities to feel equal.
All my life I have wanted to be an actor and filmmaker, with that I’ve wanted to create a sitcom. As a 13 year old closeted gay boy, I started writing down the funny interactions happening between me and my friends. Before long, I started making a series out of it. I created four characters: an attractive jock, a rich mean girl, someone dumb yet always positive, and my self insert. I was able to apply almost any situation to them. (Along with a colorful cast of supporting characters.)
Throughout my life, I either already knew people like the characters or they filled in spots as I grew up. I had a neighbor growing up like Jess, I have a sister like Amanda, I’ve had a friend like Troy, Ashley, Brittany, and I’ve had a couple Evans come in to my life, giving me the same scared feeling of unrequited love he gives Charlie. This show's concept has always been about my life, struggles, and ambitions, but the perfect way I wish it could be.
