Experiencing Interruptions?

An Irrelevant Actress

Letícia, a poor and irrelevant Brazilian actress, manages, after much insistence, to be called for an audition by a relevant film director. But the audition will be done at his house, at night. She goes. She wants to get this opportunity tooth and nail, because it could be the turning point of her career. There, at his house, she'll see that these kinds of "power relationships" come at a price, and also she'll know now that getting a good role is for the strong people. What shadows emerge from this hierarchical relationship between a director (or any man who is a boss) and an actress (or any woman looking for a job)?

Director Statement

When Letícia introduced me to the original idea for this script, I didn't hesitate: it's time to talk about these unequal power relationships in our profession and in the world. Feminism comes stronger to show us ingrained patterns, toxic relationships and all the shadow that hangs over our job market, which subordinates women and always places them as an object to be used and dismissed. The actresses are forced to smile at their own harassment, because, if they fight for their rights, they can lose work opportunities. It's an urgent matter, coming from the voice of a female and feminist artist, and my job is to endorse that fight.
We made the film with few financial resources, many concrete ideas in mind and a great thirst to address this issue!
Letícia's voice was always present in the elaboration of each scene. It's up to me, as a man, to learn about feminist issues and put my work to the service of that.
