An Anatolian Song
In my film An Anatolian Song, I developed several subjects: internal migration in the country, emigration, agriculture, livestock breeding, the experience of village institutes, ecology, the history of Turkey from the past to the present.
I was able to present different points of view, I made those who think about tomorrow speak.
My first point of view is that of Cahide Özer who arrived in Germany as a child. She grew up there with her parents who worked there.
Her view of her native country developed with a desire to return to her country.
She served as a compass for me to explore what seemed important to me, to present my microphone to the inhabitants of the region where she was born and raised, to the people of the village with whom she maintained deep ties despite her departure:
Some sing elegies, others improvise on traditional songs, some dance, highlighting social realities from the past to the present. One emphasizes the importance of planting a tree, others talk about the damage done to the environment and nature...
They tell of the destruction, and the violation of the soil and the crying water...
They tell of the sensitivity of lambs and sheep, the relationships and compassion they have for them. Villagers told me about education, immigration and how they wore the immigrant shirt...
I filmed, I followed them with my camera with patience and perseverance...
I shot thousands of sequences in the Anatolian steppes. After a long editing period, an intense documentary work of ninety minutes was born.
The Anatolian Song is the anatomy of Turkey, seen from an Anatolian village...
It is also the song of my native country.
It is an awareness-raising work that describes cultural, social and psychological problems.
An Anatolian Song highlights many important points of Turkish history which is, all things considered, a universal drama of our times.
