The Newman Brothers are from Reading, Berkshire [UK]. They started making short films together when they were ten years old. Since then they’ve written and directed multi-award-winning comedies such as The Chop (just a writer on that one) and their debut short Viskar I Vinden, and Do Not Touch.
"Amigo" explores the commodification of human connection. The protagonist, Dustin, is a terrible friend whose life is bankrolled by his girlfriend, insulating him from the consequences of his actions. This dynamic mirrors the way big tech exploits the working class through the gig economy. In the film, Dustin represents the working class, while his girlfriend embodies the upper class, relying on labor for all aspects of their lives. However, with Amigo, it is their emotional needs that are being commodified.
