Director Statement

With the recent murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others, unrest has been common in America. For a country built on the principles of freedom and justice, it has remained shockingly silent on the deaths of African Americans at the hands of police officers. Because of this ignorance, riots and protests broke out in major cities. People of all creeds, genders, and ethnicities spoke out against the hate that plagues our nation. The powerful movement, now dominating our country, served as an artistic inspiration for me. I set out to make an angry and passionate film about the effects of racial inequality and police brutality from a more personal angle. Told through the eyes of a young black man, American Rage combines powerful spoken word and stunning visuals to create a jarring call to action. The film examines the real fears that have haunted people of color for centuries. These internalized emotions are brought to the forefront in this searing exploration of race.
