American R/evolution
In 2015 the Virginia Film Festival hosted a documentary called Future Dreaming in the humble theater room at Vinegar Hill. I was in the packed room at 11am with hundreds of others; academics, business people, and more eclectic characters, all of us transformed by what we saw. The film's story, told by David E. Martin, Ph.D., seemed so important to us that, by my recollection, the entire audience remained in the theater afterward when David made himself available for a Q & A session. Dozens of hands shot in the air, and people wanted to engage in a conversation. Members of the audience congregated outside the theater to talk to him afterwards, and persisted for 40 minutes before allowing him to leave. I remember thinking "THIS is what a film festival is for!" before having the honor of meeting Dr. Martin.
Now David Martin is back with a new Film. In American R/evolution, David tells the story of the financial and commercial history of the United States. He revisits the vision for America that was postulated by Thomas Jefferson, and tells how the corporate impulse usurped the evolution of the country. The film delivers a message that challenges existing paradigms and inspires viewers to engage their communities in a greater capacity.
Our financial history is a subject typically distorted beyond comprehension. But through the film, Dr. David Martin narrates it in a way that is approachable, entertaining, and utterly mind-blowing for people of all walks of life.

Father, Partner, Friend, Voice for those who have been unheard, Linguist, Mathematician, Steward. These are some of the attributes of David. Translator of Integral Accounting, Managing Partner of Purple Bridge Funds, Founder of M·CAM®, the international leader in innovation finance, trade, and intangible asset finance, Founder of Mosaic Technologies, Founder of IDEAMED, Professor, Lecturer, Chairman, CEO. These are some of the efforts he’s engaged. But above all else, David is simply a man awake.
From the halls of parliaments to HBO comedy and documentary films such as the internationally acclaimed and multiply awarded Patent Wars and Future Dreaming, Dr. David Martin takes on some of the world’s most complex economic and social themes using solutions that he’s successfully deployed in his work with over 160 countries. With current work including financial engineering and investment, public speaking and writing, he has also served as an advisor to numerous Central Banks, global economic forums, the World Bank and International Finance Corporation and national governments around the world. He has been instrumental in rebuilding lives and livelihoods in post-conflict, post-colonial, and environmentally devastated regions of the world. He is the architect for the world’s first public equity quantitative market index based on human innovation.
American R/evolution relays a narrative that is imminent and essential within America at this time. It carries a message that is desperately sought by the public, as increasing numbers of people begin to realize that somewhere, we went off track. And across America, people want to get back on track, want to move forward, and want to transform the broken financial structure into something that represents the people. We want again to support community and to secure our own futures by doing so.
The film honors the original vision for America as cast by Thomas Jefferson and others. It honors the history of this town. I can think of no better place to premier the film than at home in Charlottesville in the VFF.
