Director Biography - Uğur Tatar

He was born in Üsküdar in 1991.

In 2016, his script titled “Bottle of Hopelessness” won the First Prize in the Alcohol Category of the “Healthy Ideas Screenplay Competition” organized by SETEM in partnership with YEŞİLAY.

He graduated from Kocaeli University, Department of “Radio, Television and Cinema” in 2017.

He took part in both the script and camera teams and edited the documentaries “Vatan yahut Fındık” (2019) and “A Village Rising with Culture and Art: ESKİHİSAR” (2022), supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.

In 2022, he won the “Festival Organization Board Special Award” with his documentary titled “History of Silk Carpet from Altay Mountains to Hereke” at the “7th Turkish World Documentary Film Festival”. At the same time, this documentary was selected as one of the opening films of the 2nd Kocaeli Film Festival in 2023.

Between 2018 and 2022, he worked as a copywriter and editing director at the production company called “İKTAV Belgesel Yayıncılık” and produced many documentaries in the field of history and culture.

He currently writes articles on cinema and comics on the site called “Maksat Sinema Olsun”, which he founded, and continues his work as a reporter on the news site called “gebzegazetesi.com” as a journalist with a press card.

1991 yılında Üsküdar’da doğdu. 

2016 yılında “Şişedeki Umutsuzluk” isimli senaryosu, SETEM’in YEŞİLAY iştiraki ile düzenlediği “Sağlıklı Fikirler Senaryo Yarışması”nın Alkol Kategorisi’nde Birincilik ödülü kazandı. 

2017 yılında Kocaeli Üniversitesi, “Radyo, Televizyon ve Sinema” bölümünden mezun oldu. 

T.C. Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı tarafından desteklenen “Vatan yahut Fındık” (2019) ve “Kültür ve Sanatla Yükselen Bir Köy: ESKİHİSAR” (2022) isimli belgesellerin hem senaryo ve kamera ekiplerinde yer aldı hem de kurgularını yaptı.

2022 yılında “7. Türk Dünyası Belgesel Film Festivali”nde “Altay Dağları’ndan Hereke’ye İpek Halının Tarihi” isimli belgeseli ile “Festival Düzenleme Kurulu Özel Ödülü” kazandı. Aynı zamanda bu belgesel, 2023 yılında 2. Kocaeli Film Festivali’nin açılış filmlerinden biri seçildi.

2018-2022 yılları arasında “İKTAV Belgesel Yayıncılık” isimli yapım şirketinde metin yazarı ve kurgu yönetmeni olarak, tarih ve kültür alanındaki birçok belgesele imza attı.

Halen kurucusu olduğu “Maksat Sinema Olsun” isimli sitede sinema ve çizgi roman üzerine yazılar yazmakta, basın kartı sahibi bir gazeteci olarak “gebzegazetesi.com” isimli haber sitesinde muhabir olarak çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir.

Director Statement

Even as a young child I had a special interest in carpets. The carpet my mother wove when she was 14 years old is still in my room. I think this has a great influence. When we examine the history of Turkish carpets and rugs, we see many different techniques and patterns. Each carpet or rug is like a unique work of art. But carpets are not only visual objects that appeal to aesthetic tastes. They are also the guardians of a deep-rooted cultural heritage. The patterns used date back to ancient times and can be associated with many different civilizations in Anatolia. For example, even the word "carpet" is thought to come from the Assyrian word "halu", which means "workshop for processing wool". And above all, carpets are a special means of communication, a way of telling a story. I am intrigued by the fact that people prefer to use loops to tell stories, I find it very surprising and intriguing. In the light of all this, when I researched Hereke carpets, it is a fact that I witnessed the pinnacle of Turkish carpet weaving. Hereke carpets are the most perfect blend of aesthetic beauty and a deep-rooted historical past.

Benim küçüklüğümden beri halılara karşı özel bir ilgim var. Sanırım bu, annemin 14 yaşında dokuduğu halının her daim odamda olmasından kaynaklanıyor. Türk halı ve kilim tarihini incelediğimizde çok sayıda farklı teknik ve desen görüyoruz. Her bir halı ya da kilim eşsiz bir sanat eseri gibi. Ama halılar sadece estetik zevklere hitap eden görsel bir nesne değiller. Bunun yanında köklü bir kültürel mirasın bekçileri bu eserler. Kullanılan desenlerin geçmişi çok eskilere dayanıyor ve Anadolu’daki birçok farklı medeniyet ile ilişkilendirilebiliyor. Mesela halı kelimesinin bile Asur dilinde "yün işlenen atölye" anlamına gelen “halu” kelimesinden geldiği düşünülüyor. Ve hepsinin ötesinde halılar özel bir iletişim aracı, bir hikaye anlatma yolu. İnsanların hikaye anlatmak için ilmekleri tercih etmiş olmaları benim ilgimi çekiyor, bunu çok şaşırtıcı ve merak uyandırıcı buluyorum. Tüm bunların ışığında Hereke halılarını araştırdığımda da Türk halıcılığının zirvesine şahit olduğum bir gerçek. Estetik güzelliğin ve köklü bir tarihi geçmişin en kusursuz harmanıdır Hereke halıları.
