Alone

"Alone" is a feature film that portrays the struggles of a family from Alzheimer’s disease. Professor Du, a well-known Taiwanese architect, planned to enjoy his retirement life with his wife along with three kids in North Taiwan. Things take its toll when Professor is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, his wife as a caregiver suffers from depression. Tragic accident on Professor’s birthday when the family should have celebrated together, but it became the worst nightmare…

Scriptwriter / Director Yoko, who experienced her own family tragedy after she left Taiwan and pursued her career overseas, has noticed the phenomenon of "empty nests" that many families face when their children study abroad, start a career, or get married. She emphasizes how old couples become mostly dependent on each other in the latter stages of their lives. Recognizing the loneliness and helplessness felt by caregiving partners when their significant other suffers from illness, Director Yoko created the movie "Alone" to raise awareness and encourage the public to show more care and support for families with dementia patients and caregiving parents. Her goal is to promote the value of a supportive family and inspire the younger generation to provide more care for their own parents.
