Director Statement

As the director, I want "All for Woman" to be a sensory and emotional experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional documentary filmmaking. The opening shots focus on the Casbah of Algiers, an iconic citadel that has inspired countless artists throughout history. This view is accompanied by chaabi music, a deliberate choice to reflect the popular soul and authenticity of this memory-laden place. The voice-over, soft and poetic, guides the viewer through this visual and cultural exploration, creating an intimate connection between the audience and Farid Benyaa’s universe. It is not merely a narrative thread but a human presence that amplifies the emotion and gives universal resonance to his story.
The documentary portrait is an ode to the Algerian woman, celebrated in all her diversity by Farid. Few artists, like him, have dedicated their entire lives to honoring femininity in all its forms. My ambition is to transcend a simple biographical narrative and dive into the very act of creation, exploring how Farid captures the essence of women through minimalist and universal works.
The cinematic language is built around a purified aesthetic, where each frame becomes a living canvas, echoing Farid’s art. Slow, contemplative camera movements invite the viewer to immerse themselves in the details: an artist’s gesture, a painted texture, light dancing across a surface. The voice-over accompanies these moments, adding an introspective depth to the visuals. It whispers reflections on the quest for truth, beauty, and identity, transforming each scene into an artistic meditation.
The synergy between chaabi music and the voice-over creates an immersive experience, where sound becomes an extension of visual emotions. Together, they transcend cultural boundaries and invite the viewer to feel the universality of Farid’s work. This film is not just a tribute to the Algerian woman; it is a celebration of human creativity, an invitation to reflect on what it means to create, to love, and to immortalize.
