Directors Kathryn Farren & Ryan M James first collaborated on and helmed the short film DREAMTIME and its sequel WITHOUT WORDS which make up the flashbacks from fifteen and ten years ago featured in ALL OF IT.
Independently, Writer/Director Kathryn Farren has helmed three short films, which have all been accepted into multiple film festivals. Her latest film THE “WHAT IF FACTOR” was nominated for Best Science Fiction for the International Alternative Festival in Toronto. She's been featured in ShoutoutLA and Voyage LA Magazine. Her play EMBRIDGE also won multiple awards for its 2019 production, including the Scenie Award for Most Promising World Premiere Play. Most recently, she directed and starred in her original musical A MOMENT, which was so popular its run was extended.
Director/Editor Ryan M James has told stories in print, games, web series and film. After starting as an editor at Naughty Dog, he now writes and directs performances for their video games, collaborating in multiple installments of the UNCHARTED and THE LAST OF US franchises.
In addition, through his production company Illusive Entertainment, he’s co-authored two novels in the FORBIDDEN series, directed a game demo, an unreleased feature film, the popular machinima web series STAR WARS: A CLONE APART, and several award-winning short films.
Fifteen years ago, we introduced Gary & Celeste to the world in the short DREAMTIME, during one crucial night that affects the rest of their lives. Their story—teens who became step siblings (but had a previous romantic connection)—ended on a cliffhanger.
Ten years ago, we continued their story in the short WITHOUT WORDS—when the characters aired their souls after half a decade apart. They finally got together, but their story was still unfinished.
After both films were featured in multiple festivals, we had to wait—letting time dictate what came next. As we both navigated a lot of difficult life situations, from failing relationships and Complex PTSD to chronic and terminal illnesses, we decided to impart our own experiences with lovers, friends, and the ever-intricate complexities of family onto Gary & Celeste’s unique journey.
With ALL OF IT, we’re thrilled to expand on Gary & Celeste’s story as past and present threads collide. Our previous short films DREAMTIME and WITHOUT WORDS interweave as flashbacks throughout a present day storyline that challenges Gary & Celeste’s relationship and family and earnestly asks – through highs and lows of life – career, postpartum, friendships, and unexpected loss – through all of it – can the spark survive?
Our film is about holding onto hope, humor and love while still holding space for the heartbreak—stepping out of the binary and embracing both the light and the dark. We deeply appreciate your consideration.
