Alfred Samuels, aged 65, was born in the UK and has studied for a master's degree in security management. He is a dedicated, ambitious, hardworking businessman, entrepreneur, and keynote/public speaker passionate about life, business, success and the community. Mr Samuels is a well-rounded man who has travelled worldwide as a security consultant for A-list celebrities for over thirty years. Furthermore, he has provided security services to government departments in Africa and the Caribbean.
In 2012, Alfred was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage four advanced metastatic prostate cancer. Since then, he has become the voice of hope, inspiration and motivation for victims of this deadly disease that disproportionately affects black men. He uses his experience to engage with different cultures and ethnic groups. He hopes to inform and influence people with the two books he has written: 'Invincibility in the Face of Prostate Cancer" and "Coming out the other side and Motivated to Inspire", and the documentary he scripted "A Survivor Amongst Survivors" aired on Sky TV in 2021.
Since his diagnosis, Alfred has dedicated himself to raising awareness of the importance of research through patient advocacy, patient involvement and media volunteering. He is a cancer campaign ambassador and has worked with the Cancer Research UK Involvement Network and is a member of The Research & Strategy Cancer Insights Panel and the Corporate Focus Strategy Group. He has also worked with other major cancer stakeholders and the pharmaceutical industry. In 2019 he was named Ambassador of the Year at the Cancer Research UK Flame of Hope awards which pay tribute to the extraordinary achievements of volunteers across the UK. Alfred says that this award is not only for himself but also for other ambassadors and volunteers who tirelessly help others.
