Director Biography - Akmal Marhain

Akmal began his filmmaking journey in 2010, creating and uploading short films to YouTube with a dream of producing a feature film. His dedication paid off in 2020 when he won the Brunei Film Blitz Awards in the Islamic Short Film Category for his short film "Diari Seorang Guru." This recognition fueled his motivation and aspirations to achieve his long-time dream.
In 2021, Akmal released his debut feature film, "Intiqam." Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which limited its widespread national attention, the film marked the beginning of a significant chapter in his career. Following the release of "Intiqam," Akmal launched a campaign to build Brunei's first cinematic universe, dubbed the IntiqamVerse.
The IntiqamVerse has since expanded with the release of two short films in 2022: "Zidan" and "Thiya’s Case 1." In 2023, Akmal continued the saga with "Intiqam 2: Wira Budiman," a direct sequel to his debut film. He has ambitious plans for the future of the IntiqamVerse, with several upcoming films including "Al-Imam," "Zidan Exodus," "Thiya’s Investigation," "Saviour," and more.
Akmal's journey from creating short films on YouTube to developing a cinematic universe is a testament to his passion, perseverance, and vision for Brunei's film industry.
