A gesture for Avariações

This film is about an athletic gesture of showing Fábia Maia's music.
This theoretical-practical essay presents the hypothesis of an athletic gesture as a way of showing a journey, a song, a person, a place full of variations and Avariações. Through the proposal of a sequence plan, the concepts of space and duration are reflected, addressing not only the movement of the body in physical space, but also of sound and camera, guided by an athletic gesture that shows Avariações until arriving at Trafaria. The plan presented for this rehearsal was established in an athletic gesture of showing on a hand-held camera, revealing the variations and “Avariações” captured on the journey across the Tejo to Trafaria, prioritizing the action time equal to the recording time.

Avariações brings together a set of 10 songs, which are the result of two years of work by the composer and the musicians involved: André Gomes on piano, keyboards, arrangements, musical direction, choirs; César Correia on bass; David Anjos on drums; Eugénia Contente on electric guitar; Joana Correia on cello and Marian Yanchyk on violin. In this album, in various styles and sensibilities, Fábia Maia also reflects her journey of “(a) variations” towards her independence.
