Director Biography - Frida Stannum

I am a multimedia artist and filmmaker based in Copenhagen. I hold a bachelor’s degree in performance design and am currently in my second year at the alternative film school Super8, specializing in directing. With years of experience in both performance art and short films, my passion lies in exploring vulnerable and ambivalent emotions through sensory and subtle storytelling. I aim to create works that are both meaningful and provocative, investigating relatable situations through fictional worlds that challenge our understanding of life.

Director Statement

Grief and the ways we cope with it are often shrouded in taboo. Emotions like anger and frustration during the grieving process are frequently suppressed, even though they are natural reactions to loss. Similarly, I believe that accepting the dissolution of a friendship – even one that once felt unbreakable – is a rarely discussed experience.
The vision behind Efter Oskar was to portray two young friends facing loss for the first time: the loss of a friend who has passed away and the unraveling of their own bond. The film explores how different ways of processing grief, along with the suppression of emotions, can create distance – even between those who were once inseparable.
