Afghanistan Earthquake - 2025

Afghanistan Earthquake – 2025 is a powerful poetic–scientific documentary by Dr Aijaz Ahmad Khan, exploring one of the deadliest disasters of our time.
In March 2025, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake ripped through northern Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush mountains, shaking Pakistan, India (including Jammu & Kashmir), and Central Asia.
Over 9,000 lives were lost, 25,000 injured, and 1.2 million left homeless, while landslides, river blockages, and environmental hazards reshaped entire landscapes.
Blending Quranic verses, Prophetic Hadith, and modern science, the film examines the deeper meaning of natural calamities:
Causes & Geology – shifting plates, fault lines, and the restless Hindu Kush.
Environmental Issues – deforestation, reckless mining, and climate change amplifying seismic risk.
Spiritual Reflection – divine signs reminding humanity of its trust to protect the earth.
Global Context – UN SDGs, disaster preparedness, and lessons for South Asia and beyond.
Through breathtaking visuals, survivor accounts, satellite imagery, and poetic narration, Afghanistan Earthquake – 2025 becomes more than a disaster story. It is a universal call to humility, gratitude, and responsibility, reminding us that every trembling ground is both natural law and a sign of the Creator.

Director Statement

As a filmmaker, I have always believed that cinema must do more than entertain—it must enlighten, challenge, and inspire.
My documentary Afghanistan Earthquake – 2025 is a poetic yet scientific exploration of one of the deadliest disasters of our time. This film reflects my commitment to merge spiritual wisdom and modern science, revealing natural calamities not only as geological events but as universal reminders of human responsibility.
Similarly, my film Reva was born from a deep desire to confront silence around menstruation with empathy rather than outrage. In many cultures, including my own, menstruation remains wrapped in stigma and shame. I chose to narrate Reva through a male voice speaking a young girl’s inner truth, deliberately challenging gender boundaries and inviting discomfort—because change begins when we confront what makes us uneasy.
For me, filmmaking is a moral and spiritual journey. Each story is an opportunity to replace ignorance with awareness, silence with dialogue, and despair with action. Whether addressing earthquakes, environmental degradation, or gender issues, my goal remains the same:
to create films that speak to the heart, awaken the mind, and inspire humanity to live as true caretakers of the Creator’s earth.
