Amanda King is an Australian filmmaker who has been producing documentaries since the late 1980's. Her interests range from contemporary issues such as the environment, Indigenous rights and independence struggles, through to the arts and labour history. She works closely with her partner, Co-Producer and Cinematographer Fabio Cavadini, and they have done for over three decades, as the partnership Frontyard Films. They have produced a number of documentaries about community struggles in the Pacific – in Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea and Bougainville. Titles include Time To Draw The Line, Colour Change and An Evergreen Island. Over the past decade they have worked with the MUA Film Unit's Jamie McMechan, producing numerous short videos about issues facing the maritime industry and others taken up by union members. In 2018 they co-produced, filmed and edited BUWARRALA ARYAH Journey West with director, Gadrian Jarwijalmar Hoosan from the Borroloola community. In 2019, their documentary The Great Strike 1917 screened at the Antenna International Documentary Film Festival. Their most recent environmental documentary, WHERE THE WATER STARTS was completed in late 2021 and is showing via FanForce.
We have been filming with Thomas Mayor as part of our work with the MUA Film Unit since the early 2010's. His recent commitment to and engagement with the Uluru Statement from the Heart campaign, supported by the union has seen him travel across the country meeting communities, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous as well as, in the past 2 years, writing books about his experiences. Such a significant journey was clearly one that has great relevance to the theme of the Dare to Struggle Film Festival, so I have brought together footage shot over the past 10 years to create, Addressing Unfinished Business.
