Writer Biography - Marie Cooper

Marie Cooper was born and raised in Norwich, England. She lives and works in Norfolk as an actor and playwright. She studied for her Master of Arts at the University of East Anglia, where she earned a distinction in Creative Entrepreneurship and was awarded the Prize for Outstanding Performance of a Creative Entrepreneurship MA student.

Marie completed her first full-length stage play during the pandemic. She had initially received excellent feedback from The Literary Consultancy on a section of the play, on her ability to create authentic characters who are “well-drawn and immediately come to life” and “people are very ‘playable’ as would be expected from an actor”, as well as being “adept at depicting a place and a time through detail in dialogue”.

Marie is a member of Equity, The Writers’ Guild and Honor Roll playwrights (advocacy/action group of women Playwrights over the age of 40). She judges screenplays and films for Watersprite Film Festival.

Contributor to The Walking Plays Anthology by the Walking Playwrights, curated by Claudia Haas; ‘Abandoned Places’ - part of the ‘Spirit of the Place’ promenade performance with The Slow Theatre Company.
