«About CINEMA and life... general SHAMANOV» (2025) Documentary

On the occasion of Heroes of the Fatherland Day, celebrated on December 9, director and Hero of Russia Iliyas Daudi presented a documentary film «About CINEMA and life... general SHAMANOV», dedicated to the visit of the legendary Airborne Forces commander Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov to the VGIK named after S.A. Gerasimov.

The film was shot during a meeting between General Shamanov and students and teachers of VGIK. During the visit, the president of the Russian Association of Heroes toured the exposition of the Institute's museum, heard the performance of wartime songs by young artists and shared his memories of how the films of the Soviet era, such as "Officers", "They fought for their Homeland", "In the zone of special attention" and others, influenced the formation of his personality and officer character. Shamanov spoke about his friendship with prominent artists, about his path in the army and answered questions from the audience.

The film is built as a lively dialogue about cinema, the profession of defender of the Motherland and human values. Special attention is paid to the topic of teachers, character education and the role of culture in shaping a worldview.

A separate section is devoted to reflections on the difference between Soviet and modern films, the role of female heroines in military cinema and the need to respect the national cinematic tradition.

The film became a large-scale conversation about the power of art, memory and the character that shapes the heroes. This is a rare opportunity to see a live dialogue between a veteran soldier, a legend of the paratroopers and young filmmakers - a dialogue about their profession, purpose and cultural roots.
