Director Biography - Mark Kerins, Ryan Hawkins

Mark Kerins earned bachelor's degrees in chemistry and mathematics from Valparaiso University, then transitioned from science to film after discovering he enjoyed making and watching movies more than working in a lab. He went on to earn MA and Ph.D degrees in film from Northwestern University, and now teaches film production and post-production in the Division of Film & Media Arts at Southern Methodist University. As a scholar, his research focuses on film sound design; his book "Beyond Dolby (Stereo)," on the use of digital surround sound in movies, was published in November 2010 by Indiana University Press and won a Godbey Lecture Series Authors Award. As a filmmaker, he works primarily in editing but has also directed a variety of films and music videos.

Ryan Hawkins graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he received his BA in Cinema-Television. While studying, he founded a production company in Dallas through which he produced and directed independent narratives and documentaries, as well as branded content for various organizations in the North Texas and Austin markets. After working in the studio communications department at The Walt Disney Company, Hawkins formed Picture Movers Anonymous alongside Alex Engemann. Under his leadership, Picture Movers Anonymous has produced multiple short films, music videos and branded content for establishments such as University of Southern California and The Rod Dedeaux Foundation. Hawkins most recently produced the feature film "The Wedding Party," directed by fellow SMU alum Thane Economou.

"All the Wrong Friends" was Mark and Ryan's first collaboration as directors.
