Director Biography - Ray Kermani


Ray Kermani is a Belgian filmmaker known primarily for his work in the horror genre. He founded Shadow Pictures, a production company that specializes in horror films, and has made a series of well-received short films. These include Shoes, Seance, In Her Shoes, and Blind Spot. His work has been recognized in numerous international film festivals, winning multiple awards. For instance, Shoes was selected for 38 festivals and won 7 awards, while In Her Shoes was selected 39 times and received 15 awards.
Kermani is passionate about promoting diversity in horror, particularly around disability, and believes in creating more inclusive films. He often writes and directs his own screenplays, being influenced by legendary filmmakers like John Carpenter and Sam Raimi, whose work inspires his approach to atmospheric scenes and creative camera work.
Despite the challenges of creating horror films in Belgium, where the genre is not as popular, Kermani has found success internationally and is committed to pushing the boundaries of horror filmmaking.

Director Statement

My co-writer and I were playing with two ideas for a new film.
-1) What if we were able to make a giallo film?
-2) What if we made a vampire movie, not with the typical gothic inspired elements, but a raw straightforward vampire story with a strong visual identity?

So we blended the slasher and vampire genre, raising the strength of the 2 evil female villains.
