A Sunday on the Moon

Sunday. Late night. Anya is sitting in a room illuminated by moonlight. There is an empty cage on the table in front of her, where until recently her pet named Dizzy lived. But Dizzy has died. Now she has to deal with her sadness and despair on her own. She decides to find solace by calling her father, who is at work. The man picks up the phone, listens carefully to and begins to calm his daughter. Besides the man feels guilty for not being able to be with his daughter at such a difficult time. To calm his daughter, he asks Anya to look out the window at the moon, which shines more than usual on this night. He tells Anya that all animals will go to the Moon someday, that they are all closer to us than we think even after their death.

Two characters in the story are a 16-year-old girl and her father, who works at a slaughterhouse. One of the main goals for me was to make the essence of father ambiguous. He is compassionate and empathetic, loves his daughter and works all week long, including Sundays, to support his family. On the other hand, he is s part of a system in which many other animals are killed. I wanted to show that all people are difficult and always have contradictions in themselves.
