A Day, A Night is my fourth feature film. Like the previous ones this film has a minimalist approach. It is made without written script or dialogue, mainly through longshots. This is a crowd funded film. Honour killing is a relatively new phenomenon in Kerala although it is rampant in other parts of India. In 2018, Kerala has faced an unprecedentedly huge flood in its history. On the other side the longest river of Kerala, Bharathappuzha flows in decay. Despite the devastating natural calamities, hierarchies on the basis of caste, religion, skin colour and money continue intact. A Day, A Night tries to represent this reality of human condition and Nature. Main characters of the film, a lover and his beloved in most of their conversations, make use of the punch dialogues of mainstream commercial films in Malayalam. Thus, it becomes a counter narrative against the hierarchies sustained by the commercial films for box office success.
Prime concept of the movie is death. It is both simultaneously of the river and man. Death enters into the movie as deluge and love. Overflowing river of the rainy season gets parched during summer. Like way man blossoms during his love and parched during his loveless state. Movie is screened in such a way to depict the dead youth's absences out of focus or soft focus in several scenes. Invisible river is seen only in the last shot.
