ANSHEL is a historical limited series that follows Nurit Asher (22), an Israeli hippie woman traveling on-and-off a Romanian train with her grandfather Anshel Daskal (78), the founder of the Israeli Diamond industry. In the summer of 1986, after serving in the IDF, Nurit decides to travel the world. While she and her grandfather couldn’t be more different from each other, they both yearn to escape their traumatic pasts. Anshel Daskal’s story (1920’s – 1980’s) takes us beyond borders, languages, and faith. It’s steeped in Jewish traditions, celebrations, and humor. Anshel tells granddaughter Nurit about his small beginnings as a business entrepreneur, and how the Israeli diamond industry came to be. What drove him towards success, and how it affected his family, his marriages, and his Orthodox path. Throughout this journey, Nurit finally sees behind her grandfather’s business facade, and gains new insight into his tragic past. While Anshel was seeking a bigger, better future for him and his family, secrets unravel as his desire for power came at a price.
