ANOMALY

In the year 2058, MARIA ANA, an older, lonely and disillusioned artist is obsessed with the memories of her late husband. Every day MARIA ANA re-lives the moments of her past with him at MEMORIES CORP, a company which offers to its clients the possibility to see and feel in detail specific moments of their past lives through Neuro-Scientific technology. One day, an anomaly in MEMORIES CORP’s system causes MARIA ANA to loose all of her past, including the parts with her late husband. Her reality is critically altered and a new time line is generated for her in which her husband is actually alive but has never known her. MARIA ANA turns to NIKOLA, a Neuro-Science engineer at MEMORIES CORP who has the theory that with his company’s technology time travel is possible. NIKOLA is able to help MARIA ANA go back in time to recover that, which is most precious to her, her past live with her late husband, even though she knows that in doing so, she is putting her own life at risk.

Director Statement

Anomaly explores obsession and the absence of hope through the perspective of Maria Ana, an older woman clinging to her memories, unable to live a present which she feels, is ungrateful to her. The evolution of the story connects her with Celia and Nikola, two opposite but complementary characters.

Each one represents positions with respect to destiny: those who accept it with an anguishing conformism, those who are obsessed with changing it and those with determination so strong as to write their own.
