A Memory of the Wind

Mitsuki, a Japanese female dancer, and Jian, a Korean male dancer, meet in Jeju on the southern island of Korea. Mitsuki's grandfather served as a kamikaze pilot in Jejudo during the Japanese occupation and died a suicide attack on American bombers. Jian's grandfather endured hardships when the Japanese military took the land and forced labor, but he was slaughtered by the liberated motherland. They look back on the sick history scene, imagining that their grandfathers might have met. They gather hearts to comfort those who have died in the dance, and begin to dance at the end of the day.

Director Statement

Right now, the Korean and Japanese governments are in a trade war because of different perspectives toward the Japanese occupation in World War 2. This kind of conflicts continuously have occurred after the independence of Korea from Japan in 1954, and regardless of the justice and righteousness, there have been always victims.
This work focuses on those innocent people who met the tragedies. Mitsuki's grandfather was a good person, but was forced to die in a suicide mission as a soldier and Jian's grandfather was killed by the Korean army on charge of communism despite the fact that he was a landowner.
On the island where both of the men were sacrificed, their decedents show that art can be a great answer for the long disputes. Their performance not only comfort those who were killed in the history of madness but harmonize people over their national sentiments.
