Lewis Wilkinson is a recent graduate from UCA Farnham's animation course who specialises in documentary and music film-making with a playful and anarchic tone. He is versed in both analogue paper-cut & 2-D digital animation techniques. He has worked with musicians Adam Absent & Martin Newell.
Since my very conception I have been initiated to the wonderful world of Martin Newell. My earliest memories of his work are of falling asleep listening to his series of ‘Brian the Lion’ audiobooks, originally written for his daughter when she was young. This exposure is in debt to my father, Paul Wilkinson who is a close friend of Newell’s and was responsible for running his website for many years. Undoubtedly, I had some years of angst where I rejected anything and everything my parents enjoyed - but once I snapped back into my senses I realized on a deeper level, just how cool this guy and his obscure 80’s band really is. Not only are his tunes catchy, witty & poetic, but they also helped kickstart an ethos & aesthetic revolution deeply entrenched in today’s contemporary music culture. With scrappy felt-tipped linework, exposed puppet pins and instances of interesting technical mistakes, this film revels in and celebrates its lo-fi creation and I hope to exemplify the beauty of such imperfections.
