AMAZON VARIATIONS

The audiovisual work “Amazon Variations” by Cecilia Pillado is a “re-composition” of her piano work of the same name through images and effects, the plot of which is hinted at through the titles of the individual parts, revealing a cyclical story of beginning and return.
It is a philosophical, mystical, spiritual, experimental, contemplative essay that addresses concepts such as the origin of cosmos, life, fertility, love, destruction, transformation, among others. Or it’s just a journey through the universe and nature, passing through a jungle that holds hidden and unknown dangers, through a dancing celebration, stopping at the ocean, turning back to the starting point. A tribute to the Amazon River, giver of life, to the nature and the cosmos.

Director Biography - Cecilia Pillado

Cecilia Pillado is an Italian-Argentinian-German actress, pianist, filmmaker and composer based in Berlin. As an actress she’s been working in German TV and film industry for more than 25 years and has also succeeded as concert pianist on stage and through her numerous recordings of Tangos, Classical and Film Music. She founded her own Music Label Company “Tango Malambo” which is now expanding to an audiovisual productions company. She is a graduate of University of Arts Berlin, University of Cuyo Argentina, International Film School Cologne, Germany and the “The Studio - Hollywood” in Los Angeles, California. She began producing short films and later music videos, since her connection with music is very strong. "Amazon Variations" (2025) was awarded as Best Composer at California Women Film Fest, Best Music Video (Long Form) at Paris Women CineFest, Best Composition at Apollo Global Music Awards and Honorable Mention Best Music at London Women Film Fest, besides being Finalist for Best Music Video at Berlin Around Films Festival, Humro Cinema Film Fest and Berlin Short Film Awards. “Cecilia’s Piano Ave Maria” (2022) was official selected at Toronto Indie Short Filmmakers Festival, Roma Short Film Festival, New York Tri-State, Tokio, Madrid and Japan International Film Festivals, Apollo Global Music Awards Greece, Kerala, Himachal, Pune, Goa and West-Bengal Short Film Festivals in India and Opus Klassik Awards in Germany. She is currently post-producing the documentary feature “B99THN 9+” and developing her screenplay “Valentina, Her Piano and the Tangos” a feature that will be directed by Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki.
