A London Borough (Theatrical Version)
My mini-documentary titled A LONDON BOROUGH, produced as part of the Breaking Waves 2023 programme with Create London and funding and support with National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England and Arts Fund. The film had its screening at Eastbury Manor House in Barking alongside the film Downstream by Aislinn Evans from December 03rd - 17th 2023.
" A London Borough is predominantly focused on local history and working-class heritage within the borough of Barking and Dagenham, exploring how it exists and strives to in drastically changing times.
The speakers in my film are all residents who lived their lives in the borough and are quite literally ‘living history’ with my film giving them an opportunity to voice their stories and links to the area. It’s rather fitting and cordially respectful that my film should begin at St Margaret’s Church in Barking Town Centre, it’s the epicentre of history within the borough having seen the likes of William the Conqueror to Captain James Cook.
We then traverse further east into Dagenham, an area with its own unique heritage being home to the famous Becontree Housing Estate and of course the much beloved Ford Motor Company Plant formerly on Chequers Lane, in a way the film truly begins from this point on in which changes to industry, environment and community over the years become the main focus of the film. “
