Asger Folmann is a Danish/American psychologist and linguist turned actor turned filmmaker.
A few years ago, I thought I was dying. I began writing a film about a man who ended his life - and felt good about it.
It later turned out I was suffering from undiagnosed type 1 diabetes (and was in fact on track to dying).
Confronted with my own mortality - and learning the ins and outs of insulin injections - I finally finished the early draft of the script.
The story may be dark, but it is ultimately a celebration of life.
As the character Deuce puts it: "A good story doesn't have to be long, that's not what makes it good. Same with a life."
A Life Well Lived is the story of a meaningful life, and a meaningful death. It is heavily inspired by stoic philosophy, which has helped me not only cope with my mortality, but even finding meaning in it.
