Director Biography - Sergio Preciado

Hey there, I’m Sergio Preciado, the Writer and Director of A Lavender Heartbeat. I am 24 years
old and a senior calling a wrap on my educational career at San Diego State University. I’m
excited to be bringing this project to life as my thesis film and am blessed to have the most
amazing cast and crew by my side through it all. I have always had a passion for making films
that could connect with people and create a sense of relatability through the screen. Having an
impact on those who come across my projects has always been the ultimate goal. I am really
eager to make this one in a million film in honor of those with A Lavender Heartbeat.

Director Statement

Life became more precious the day it began to fade away from me. The
constant hearing of “time is precious” also began to make less sense. Time
runs out once life ends but life is what gives you more time. So I ask, why not
make the most of it? I was 14 when I found out my mom had cancer with a
very low chance of surviving. Priorities changed and I was no longer
planning for what I was going to do the next day with my friends but rather,
what is cancer and how can you cure it? Everyday that went by I saw life
fade away from my mom and I, along with those around, began to lose
myself in her illness. I spent a lot of time watching romance movies and after
one of those films, the question sparked. How do you tell someone who is
dying that you love them and having to deal with keeping that love with you
once they weren’t? Five years later, A Lavender Heartbeat is in production
and being made as my final educational film. To know someone you love is
suffering alone and to be powerless to change that is what this film is about. I
want to display that the suffering a patient goes through is not only on their
body and on their mind, but on everyone who loves them. This is how Dolton
feels for Skyler. This film is more than just a student film and I know I can
bring it to life and make an impact on every person it comes across.
