ALL'OMBRA DELLA CROCE

In the shadow of the cross
A story of men; men who have changed the course of history.
A story set along the banks of the Jordan, more than 2000 years ago. The last hours of Jesus' life from a new point of view... the eyes of Judas and Peter guide the viewer on an unexpected journey through political games, wars, rivalry and mysticism.

We wondered how it was possible to investigate in an alternative way such a famous and known fact. We then shifted our attention to the apostles closest to Jesus, who interpret in their own way two currents of thought. From the baptism of Jesus, thought as a moment of encounter between these parts, we pass to the last days of the Messiah’s life, when he, torn by doubt and fear, resists temptations and abandons himself (in his own way) to his destiny.

The passion of Christ is the most touching image, made of blood, pain, suffering... expressly human characteristics, such as those of "our" Jesus. Yet this is only a moment in the film, which is instead fueled by a sad but at the same time illuminating internal struggle, which in the last scene brings light to the shadow of the cross.

Mario Bonetti and Giovanni Zanotti signed their works for years as a single director. This is the result of a proven collaboration and a strong synergy and friendship that has bound them since 2016.

They produce advertising videos for high fashion houses, commercials and services for art exhibitions and events.

It is in 2022 that their first work is distributed to the cinema. This is the documentary LA CONTEA NELLA NEBBIA, which tells the slow passage of time in a small Lombard village, between art, history and culture.

Among the new productions we have the feature film IN THE SHADOW OF THE CROSS (2024) and the long-awaited documentary LA NOTTE DEL CONTE ROSSO (2025), which will be released in many cinemas in Italy from January.

Mario Bonetti e Giovanni Zanotti firmano da anni le loro opere come un unico regista. Questo è il frutto di una collaudata collaborazione e di una forte sinergia ed amicizia che li lega ormai dal 2016.

Producono video pubblicitari per casa di alta moda, spot e servizi per mostre d’arte ed eventi.

È nel 2022 che la loro prima opera viene distribuita al cinema. Si tratta del documentario LA CONTEA NELLA NEBBIA, che racconta il lento scorrere del tempo in un piccolissimo borgo lombardo, tra arte, storia e cultura.

Tra le nuove produzioni abbiamo il lungometraggio ALL’OMBRA DELLA CROCE(2024) e l’atteso documentario LA NOTTE DEL CONTE ROSSO(2025), che uscirà in molte sale in Italia a partire da gennaio.

Their artistic journey is based on the constant search for fascinating ideas and stories, hidden or forgotten, to be told through the documentary. Mario Bonetti, a doctor of history, carries out his research in a precise, detailed and passionate way with the aim of extracting a soul from the story. Giovanni Zanotti to the room and to the assembly completes the work assembling everything in a wise way. The result is deep work, in which the uniqueness of the story is sought by telling it mainly with the voices of those who have lived the story, of their own path and the emotions they have experienced. Man is at the center of the story, in his relationship with space and time: themes that seem very close but that often, for this reason (or for fear of facing them) are left closed in a drawer.

Il loro percorso artistico si basa sulla costante ricerca di idee e storie affascinanti, nascoste o dimenticate, da raccontare per mezzo del documentario. Mario Bonetti, dottore in storia, svolge le sue ricerche in modo preciso, dettagliato e appassionato con lo scopo di estrapolare un’anima dal racconto. Giovanni Zanotti alla camera e al montaggio completa l’opera assemblando il tutto in modo sapiente. Il risultato sono dei lavori profondi, in cui si ricerca l’unicità della storia raccontandola principalmente con le voci di chi la storia l’ha vissuta, del proprio percorso e delle emozioni che ha provato. L’uomo è al centro del racconto, nel suo rapporto con lo spazio e il tempo: temi che sembrano molto vicini ma che spesso, per questo motivo (o per paura di affrontarli) si lasciano chiusi in un cassetto.
