Pedro Segura is a lawyer who worked for many years in finance until the age of 26. After an existential crisis caused by the death of a friend, he left everything behind to seek self-expression. He spent several years working in production, preparing and learning to become a filmmaker. In 2022, he began filming "Un Abrazo," convincing a team of great professionals to join a project that marked his debut as a screenwriter and director. In 2023, he moved to Madrid and studied directing for a year at the Septima Ars School. There, for his final thesis, he filmed “De cobardes y sabios,” which premiered at the Almería Western Film Festival, sharing the program with filmmakers like Pedro Almodóvar, Hlynur Pálmason, and Felipe Gálvez. While continuing to work on the post-production of "Un Abrazo," he filmed a directing exercise that turned into a short film and premiered at MADcine 2024, also in Spain. In August 2024, he finally completed the production of "Un Abrazo," his first professional project.
"A Hug" has its genesis in a personal experience. At the funeral of a relative, which many people attended, I found one of the young children of the deceased trembling in a corner, overwhelmed by the atmosphere. I offered to take him for a walk outside, and when we stepped out of the building, we encountered all his classmates who had come to greet him. They hugged him, and faced with this display of love from his peers, he became emotionally overwhelmed and ran away. The experience moved me, but so have many others in my life. Why make a film about this experience and not the others? That experience was sad, but filled with beauty. The human response to death and love. A portrait of all those lives that, in their own way, try to find some peace.
