A Film by Roland Wehap
The film "A Film by Roland Wehap" is a work by the filmmaker of the same name, Roland Wehap, who, as a "one-man show filmmaker," challenges the concept itself by embarking on an extraordinary experiment: Is it possible to produce a short film with almost no budget entirely on your own?
In this ultimate "one-man show," fiction and autobiographical elements merge into a biting satire about an uncompromising filmmaker. Driven by his relentless quest for fame, recognition, and the big breakthrough, he navigates the typical stages of a film career riddled with setbacks.
For a brief moment, however, he basks in the glamour of the world stage: he creates a film about his sleeping cat, establishes his own film festival after being rejected by all the others, and even gains international attention. But it quickly becomes evident that fame and honor don’t always translate into financial success.
In the end, one truth remains: a filmmaker has to make films—whatever the cost.

Since I started making films, I’ve worked with very small teams and, more often than not, on very small budgets. I suppose you could call me a solo filmmaker, as I always handle the main tasks like writing, cinematography, and editing myself. This approach works quite well for non-fiction projects.
But one day, I had the idea: could I pull off a fictional story in the same way? A hardcore one-man show, so to speak. It turned out to be the toughest ride of my life. Many times, I thought the film would never be finished.
Now, it’s finally done. And if you reject it, well, that’s probably just in keeping with the script. One thing is certain though—I’ve definitely earned the Otto Award!
