A Cardinal Woman
A short poetical portrait of Claudia Cardinale.
Like a tightrope walker, the director wanders on the fine line which unites two sides of Claudia : the elderly woman she is today and the forever young cinema icon. He accompanies Claudia in a ballet between past memories and the present day, by creating around her the crazy, circus-like liveliness of a film set.

Opening Retrospective about Claudia Cardinale
Born and raised in Ticino, Manuel Maria Perrone works between France, Italy and Switzerland. He began his training through theatre, where he began his career on the street, with performances in Mexico, Argentina where he lived for 5 years, exploring the world of masks and objects. In 2005, he participated in Buenos Aires in the creation of the Internacional Errori- sta, a political performance project presented in biennials and museums. Also in those years, he began working as an assistant director, training in dramaturgy and then coming to cinema by chance. In Marsi- glia, he refined his cinematic research, while maintaining his theatrical imprint, immersing himself in new contexts, collaborating with Emmaüs and Médecins du Monde. He founded the independent production and distribution company Agence de l'Erreur, through which he produces and directs several short films and various shows on the borderline between cinema, theatre and installation. His short films have been distributed and won prizes at numerous festivals. In 2012 he was selected for the G.R.E.C. writing residency, and in 2015 he took part in the Locarno Festival's Filmaker Academy. In 2017, he participated in the Beirut Factory together with Shirin Abu Shaqra with whom he co-directed the film Hotel Al Naim, which opened in 2018 at the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. To date, he works as a playwright and director for Rete Due of the Radio della Svizzera italiana.
