Experiencing Interruptions?

ACCOUNTING

Darwin named 'the tree of life' describes how single-cell creatures evolved into millions of different species in the process of sorting and separating. According to his theory of natural selection, the qualities of an organism change to the extent they match their environment. Thus, whatever enables survival will remain. There is no meaning to the quality of the trait, only to its function for survival, random as it may seem - Those fittest will survive. Do people evolve character, culture and values, in the same way? Do we carry on only that which best serves our survival without acknowledging what traits we idolize?
Symbiosis is a relationship between two separate creatures, bound together for mutual benefit, so much so that they cannot exist apart from each other. Parasitic relationships can be defined the same way, where one side benefits from the other, when only one side gives and the other receives. Predator and prey also share the status of a 'one-sided relationship', but they are not considered symbiotic. Is there a semblance between dependency and symbiosis? If we are not dependent, are we then bound to be in competition or struggle?
Compassion and aggression, perhaps complementary characteristics, may seem against the utilitarian nature of evolution. How do they fit into the modern society we created? Do we choose how and why we invest our love in the people we love? Did we replace tribal wars with online shaming? With brand loyalty? Are we just fending off attacks on ourselves that we made from our lack of perspective and extremist views?
The outline of the 'self' is drawn by life circumstances while relating to our environment. According to Freud, our basic biological needs are channeled to socially acceptable norms, and our violent and sexual urges become expressed in ways that enable us to form or identity while living alongside other human beings. Are we required today to defend the boundaries of our 'self' instead of our bodies against an environment threatening to consume us?
