After a never ending series of bad luck, Max listens to his mother and seeks help from a local curandera (healer) to rid him from negative energies. During his spiritual journey he realizes this is not his first encounter with the curandera (healer).

Director Biography - Nilton Carauta

Nilton Carauta is a Brazilian native who moved to the US to pursue his dreams in the film industry. Born and raised in Brazil, his environment influenced Nilton’s focus on social dramas and politics.

Nilton received his Bachelor’s in Journalism from Rio, where he also worked at a major newspaper company, interviewing Brazilian celebrities and high-profile figures. He recently completed his Master of Science in Cinematography for Film & Television at DePaul University, and has worked as a Production Assistant at CBS News and ALMedia.

Director Statement

Estrella and I wrote this film with the intent of showing a side of spirituality we do not normally see. We interviewed actual curanderas based in Pilsen to accurately portray the art of healing. I wanted to bridge Latin based spirituality with Chicago’s magical communities.
