Ermina Takenova was born in a beautiful mountainous city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, during a very troubled time, right after the collapse of the USSR.
Ermina has been living and studying in the UK since 2007, first moving there when she was 15 years old. She’s been living in the UK independently and away from her family, which sparked a keen interest in her cultural roots and her native culture. Ermina is inspired by mythology and traditions of the ancient Kazakh culture, as well as having a keen interest in all the cultures of the world, their traditions and history. Growing up under the influences of three cultures: Kazakh, Russian and British has greatly contributed to Ermina’s artistic development and view of the world. Ermina loves finding connections between different cultures of the world. She is keen on creating artworks that can be understood universally, as she believes humanity can communicate in a universal language of raw human emotions.
Ermina’s creative practice is focused on illustration and animation, working in a wide variety of styles and techniques.
