Rohit specializes in making films on low budget viz. on mobile phones, entry level DSLR's, guerrilla tactics, temporary sound studio setups, etc. He wishes to tell slice of life stories. Alternating between an IT software job and making films, Rohit is one of the very few directors excelling at both fields. With a Runner up medal at Large Short Films Mobile Film Festival 2015, an Official Selection at Calcutta Internation Cult Film Festival and many other National level awards already in his kitty, he hopes to carve his own niche.
From the day i bunked my 9 hours desk job to meet the DP team, till Dec 26, 2016 when I finally put my hands up and made the first DVD copy of the short film - "Chanachur" (English Translated Title - "Bombay Mix"), the year long journey has been the most tiring, tumultuous, heart breaking, inspiring, confusing but a never boring one. It taught me many things, both on and off set... which i am only thankful to god to have thrown them my way.
I started the film with the fortune of 12 people on set... was left with 2.. and then alone for a month and a half running against time and situations to edit, sound design, color correct and present a 20 min short film. I will be honest to confess that I cried many times... felt the film was going nowhere. I felt a sense of loneliness and 'deja vu' of failing.
Yet some people and situations continued to inspire and motivate me ... viz my Cast - the 81 years old Pushpendra Krishna Bhowmik' s hard work and dedication on set and dubbing sessions, my Floor assistant - Shilpi Bhowmik's unconditional care to feed us with chicken on set, my DP - Nilanjan Bhowmik's passion and fatherly care for the film and an outsider's belief in me meant that the film needed to see light.
Film is ready and people have shed a tear or two watching it... only a handful of people maybe, but i count it as our success.
