Bittersweet
Bittersweet is a short film about local surfer, Daniel Satchell surfing one of the UK's most popular seaside tourist destinations - Brighton.
Although Brighton is hardly the epicentre of UK surfing, it still surprisingly holds a good wave from time to time although this does mean dropping everything for a session between tides.
Daniel surfs next to the Palace Pier (also know as Brighton Pier) mainly because there are no crowds.
This does come with a price of no shelter from the prevailing SW wind, tourists shouting "SHARK" and throwing chips at you, dive bombing seagulls and dirty water.
The video hopefully, not only gives the viewer an insight into surfing the Palace Pier but also reveals the sights, the sounds and the smells of what it's like to surf in Brighton!

Since my early 20's I have travelled and worked abroad, only coming back to the UK to save a little money before heading off again. I have travelled and worked across Europe, Asia, Canada and Africa. Africa has been the country that has had the biggest effect on me, from working and volunteering in Kenya at a children's orphanage to tagging turtles on a conservation project on Funzi Island out in the Indian Ocean. I have also volunteered, worked and lived in South Africa for over 4 years, working as a surf instructor in Muizenberg, Cape Town and as a graphic designer for a wine/travel & tourism guide. In recent years I have somewhat settled down a bit working with my uncle for a family run business where I work as the main in-house graphic designer and camera operator/editor. I also still maintain working as a freelance graphic designer in my spare time.
Now permanatly living in Hove, I still maintain a healthy balance between work and travel.
I film things as I see them, no special effects are added. I want the viewer to experience everything as I see and experience it. From early freezing mornings to the sights, smells and sounds of life in the ocean.
