Director Biography - Nathan Hale Williams, Jennia Fredrique Aponte

Nathan Hale Williams is a storyteller. In traditional terms, Nathan is a multi-hyphenated entertainment professional who is an award-winning filmmaker, award-winning author, entertainment attorney, success coach and television personality. Nathan is the executive producer and producer of the NAACP Image Award and GLAAD Media Award nominated film, Dirty Laundry (FOX/Codeblack). Nathan also produced and starred in the award-winning film, The Ski Trip (MTV Networks). For television, Nathan is the creator and executive producer of “My Model Looks Better Than Your Model” (BET), hosted by “America’s Next Top Model” winner Eva Marcille (Pigford) and “Fashion Queen,” Bevy Smith. As well, he is the executive producer of “Leading Men” and “Leading Women” (formerly, “Real Life Divas”) (BET), which was nominated for a 2010 NAACP Image Award.

With critical acclaim, Nathan produced and directed a three-part Black History Month documentary series, “INSIDE: Black Culture” (BET). He has directed and produced commercials for Isabella Fiore Handbags (starring Veronica Webb), Jumpstart (starring LL Cool J) and the U.S. CDC’s “Testing Makes Us Stronger” campaign starring the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Nathan has also worked on the film Pastor Brown (Lifetime), the television series, “The Kimchi Chronicles” with Hugh Jackman and Heather Graham (PBS) and the film Blackbird starring Academy Award winner, Mo’Nique (RLJ Entertainment).

Love for Passion, which he wrote and directed in 2015 was an official selection at top film festivals, including UrbanWorld, the Manhattan Film Festival and won “Best Short Film” at the Pocono Mountains Film Festival. Nathan just completed 90 Days starring NAACP Image Award winning actress, Teyonah Parris and Pauletta Washington. The film confronts the stigma associated with being HIV positive is executive produced by Empire’s Jussie Smollet. Currently, Nathan is in pre-production for the film, The Second Act, which he co-wrote with star Jenifer Lewis (black-ish, Jackie’s Back).

JENNIA FREDRIQUE APONTE is a writer, director and actress. Originally from Gary Indiana, Jennia attended Columbia University's School of Theater and has been a comedic acting power house for over a decade. As an actor she has held series regular and recurring roles on NBC, CW, ABC, BET, Centric and more. In March of 2015 Jennia shot ABC pilot Delores & Jermaine where she co-starred opposite Whoopi Goldberg.

In 2013 she made her directorial debut with viral video "First Kiss In Color” which
featured strangers, of color kissing for the very first time. The project was in celebration of Black Love, a theme near and dear to her heart. As a director Jennia’s primary influences are: Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino and Jean Jeunet.

Jennia currently hosts celebrity interview series "Beyond the Talent" where she has interviewed the likes of: Usher, Kevin Hart, Akon, Miguel, Estelle, Flo Rida and many other urban music artists. The series is currently licensed abroad.

Last year Jennia wrote and directed the award winning short f i l m Sacred Heart, executive produced by Jussie Smollett (EMPIRE) & Sol Aponte. The film has won numerous awards and is currently rounding out its festival tour. Sacred Heart makes its television debut June 18th, 2016.

Currently Jennia is in collaboration with Jussie Smollett to develop Sacred Heart in to a series. She is also in pre production with her husband Sol Aponte as well as Rockmond Dunbar and his wife Maya, on a feature length documentary showcasing Black Love.

Director Statement

In this film, we want to dispel prevailing myths about what it means to be positive, particularly when it comes to dating, sex, marriage and having children. We also hope we created a compelling piece that gives people living with HIV a vision for establishing and managing mixed status intimate and sexual relationships. We also want to help break down the stigma associated with being positive that said, the piece is realistic, sincere and shows Taylor’s emotional/natural reaction to the news.
